CANADA / ONTARIO AFFORDABLE HOUSING PROGRAM

ATTENTION HOMEOWNERS!

The District of Sault Ste. Marie Social Services Administration Board in co-operation with the Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario is pleased to make available the Canada/Ontario Affordable Housing Program.

The Northern Housing Component of the Canada/Ontario Affordable Housing Program is designed to provide assistance to qualifying homeowners with the cost of eligible repairs to their homes.

On behalf of the District of Sault Ste. Marie Social Services Administration Board, we would like to thank you for your interest in applying to the Canada-Ontario Affordable Housing Program’s Northern Repair Component.  We have currently reached the maximum number of homeowners we can assist with our allotted federal/provincial dollars.  Your application will be waitlisted chronologically.  As more funds become available, we will attempt to assist all applicants.

WHAT IS THE CANADA-ONTARIO AFFORDABLE HOUSING PROGRAM?
The Canada-Ontario Affordable Housing Program offers financial help to low-income homeowners who need to make repairs to their homes.  The program is aimed at people who live in substandard dwellings and cannot afford the repairs that are necessary to make their home safer and healthier to live in.
In general, repairs required to bring a dwelling up to a minimum level of health and safety can be funded. To receive assistance, you MUST have at least one mandatory repair such as foundation problems, roof problems or electrical problems.  It is important to keep in mind that this assistance is for basic mandatory repairs and not repairs to modernize or improve the appearance of your home.

ATTENTION RENTERS!

The DSSMSSAB in co-operation with the Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario is pleased to make available the Canada/Ontario Affordable Housing Program Housing Allowance / Rent Supplement.  A “housing allowance” is a supplement paid to the landlord on behalf of households in need of rental assistance. It is meant to help bridge the difference between the rent that a household can afford to pay and the actual market rent.

Applicants must submit two (2) forms to qualify for this program.  Interested parties must complete the Housing Allowance Application and have their Landlord complete Appendix C.
